Prologue 2: Van and Agumon
Hearing his friend say his name confused, Van stared as his monitor too started to flicker, the light getting brighter. Finally, engulfed in light, Van stood ready to face what may come. When the light faded, he found himself in a forest. There were trees as far as he could see. “Where the hell…” Van began checking his pockets, trying to find his compass, but all he found was his phone. “Wait, this was on my desk… why… that’s not what I should focus on right now.” Looking back around, shoving his phone in his pocket, he soon heard the sounds of people talking. He began to head in that direction, as quietly as he could. As he got closer, he realized the voices were aggressive. He finally got to the clearing, and he found 3 guys, each with a digimon by their sides. The first guy, a shorter guy with a red tee shirt and jeans, had a mushroom that made it up to his waist, with a purple cap coated in yellow rings, and pink gloves and boots. The next guy, a taller thin man, wearing a green letterman jacket and sweats, had a Blue dinosaur looking creature, that only seemed to be made of a tail, 2 feet, and a head. It had 2 spikes coming off it’s back. The final guy, wearing a black polo and dress pants, was joined by an extremely large spider, its 6 hind legs seem to be bandaged, and its front 2 appear more like hands with gloves, red spikes lining it’s striped rear. In front of them, a small pink ball with long ribbon like ears, and a blue fuzzy ball with a silver spiked helmet. The pink ball had a few scratches on it. “C’mon guys, if we beat enough of em maybe we can digivolve,” the shorter man said leaning forward. “Yes, but I think I should be the first one to do it,” responded the man in the polo. Before the conversation got any further, Van walked into the clearing, and sprinted forward, a right hook connecting with the man in the letterman jacket. The small pink ball started cheering. “See see? I told you he’d be here to help.” It’s excited voice seemed to calm the fuzzy one, who had clearly been crying. “What do you idiots think you’re doing?” The man in the red tee stepped forward, getting close to Van. “Simple, we’re grindin so that Mushmon and the other can reach the next stage of evolution.” Van nodded, looking at the other 2 men, and then the 3 digimon near them. “You all feel that way eh?”
“Well yeah. These are just game creature-” The man in the red shirt started, but couldn’t finish as Van threw a haymaker, connecting with his jaw. Van’s phone pinged, but he ignored it. The pink ball bounced excitedly, before throwing itself at the mushroom as hard as it could. Noticing the mushmon ready to catch the pink ball, Van immediately moved to kick out it’s legs, allowing it to connect. “Koromon, you gotta be more careful-”
“That was mine Van!” Hearing his name caught him off guard for a moment, before causing him to smirk. “Well well. You know my name, that must mean-”
“Yup.” The Koromon bounced up onto Van’s shoulder. Van cracked his knuckles, smiling. “Good. That means we can beat them up together-”
“Kodokugumon, deal with them-” the spider let out a hiss before shooting out a spider web. Van ducked down, only to be met with Mushmon connecting a jab to his gut. “Hey, that’s not fair, fighting-”
“Shut up you annoying soccer ball. There’s no such thing as a fair fight here.” The man in the polo pointed at his chest as he continued. “I’m gonna do as I please and then you’re all gonna make me the king of the digital world.” Van chuckled, before standing up. “That’s no way for a king to act.” Van slammed a fist into his open palm, before cracking his neck before he continued, “See, a good king stands for his people, defends them. You? You’re thugs. And thugs… Well they get hit.”
“I’m going to help too-” Koromon said, jumping from Van’s shoulder. “Koromon, digivolve to-” Koromon said, beginning to grow rapidly while bathed in an orange light. Legs and arms formed, with sharpened claws at the end of the arms, his ball-like head being formed to one much more dinosaur-like. Koromon stood now about 2 foot tall, letting out a roar. “Agumon!” Van got into a boxing stance, smiling. “Let’s go Agumon-”
“Just like always-”
Van and Agumon were able to make fairly quick work of the tamers and their digimon. As they were on their backs, Agumon stood over the Gaossmon, flames charging within the Agumon’s mouth. “Agumon, don’t.” Van said, looking over to his dinosaur companion. “But I-”
“They don’t need to lose their partners. Specially since this is… I assume the digital world. It’s dangerous, we should at least let them have that.” Agumon sighed, firing off his pepper breath to the sky. “Alright, fine… But I need to get data to grow.”
“And we will get you that. But for now-” Van said, pulling the spider web that was fired off at him, and breaking off a few strands of it to wind into a makeshift rope. “Help me out with this.” Agumon was confused until Van sat up the guy in the polo shirt, and tied up his hands behind his back, and too the tree. Once the wrapping was tight, Van repeated similar, though he left the one in the letterman jacket untethered from the tree. Van walked over, and lightly tapped the man’s cheek till he woke up. “Listen up,” Van started, staring at his face intently. “I’m gonna let you go. You’re gonna be free to keep roaming. But let me tell you this. If you keep bullying digimon, I’m going to find you, and I’ll let Agumon give you a few hits, it won’t just be me taking you down. Got it?” The man looked worried, and began to fervently nod. “W…wait… wh-” Polo shirt tugged at the bindings, before Van knocked him back out. “Let’s go Agumon.” Agumon waved to the group of unconscious thugs. The small fuzzball jumped out from behind a tree, looking up at Van. “T…thank you sir,” it said low. Van just gave it a thumbs up. “You’re a kapurimon right? Just grow up to be a strong digimon. How does that sound?” The Kapurimon’s eyes began to glow with excitement, as it began bouncing in place. “You got it!” Kapurimon then started bouncing off. Van then turned to Agumon, and nodded as he began walking. “Hey Agumon, I’ve got a question for you.” Agumon looked up at Van as they walked, touching one of his claws to his chin. “What is it?”
“You mentioned Just like Always when I talked about us fighting together.” Agumon smirked up at Van. “What did you-”
“I’m your partner. We’ve gone on tons of adventures together! Though you probably remember me as a Greymon.” Van looked confused, finally pulling his phone out as it pinged. The screen showed a small pixelated Agumon, with ‘Agumon Lv. 3’ written across the top. Next to it, a Green box that said Health, and a Red box that said Hunger. There was a brown messenger back on the bottom corner of the screen. As Van looked, Agumon’s stomach started rumbling. “We should find you some-” Van heard the sound of electricity arcing nearby, and stopped. “Agumon-”
“I think someone’s in trouble. Let’s go!” Agumon began to run off in the direction of the electricity, and Van followed. As they got closer, the electricity stopped and talking could be heard. Van stepped through the bushes, seeing a familiar face. The brown hair, with a deep blue streak running through it, her white and blue jacket, with the betamon pockets and the trans flag on the shoulder, all familiar to him. “Oh hey Alyss-”
