Prologue 1: Alyss and Betamon
“Thank you so much for watching everyone. We will see you next time!” The green button turned red as she clicked the stream off button and let out a sigh. “You good Alyss?” Her friend’s voice seemed as tired as she felt. “Yeah, you know how it is. We finish a 24 hour stream and I just wanna pass out.”
“Maybe you should.”
“You should too Van. You hung out with me for all 24 hours of it. Again.” Before Alyss could finish her statement, her screen started flickering. “Uhhhhh. Van-” She couldn’t even finish her statement before the world around her seemed to be lost in the white flickering light. Covering her eyes, the sounds of air rushing past her filled her ear. Before she knew it, the sound was gone, it was silent. She couldn’t feel her headphones or her chair, causing her to fall back. Looking around, Alyss found herself at a lakeside, surrounded by trees, the world tinted pink by her glasses. “What… What in the hell-”
“It’s you!” The light voice chirped out in almost sing song. “You’re here, you’re here, you’re heeeerrrreeeeeeeeee,” the voice continued. Alyss looked around, unable to find the source of the noise. A splashing noise, as a small green creature jumped from the lake. It had a small yellow beak, a white round spot atop it’s head, surrounded by small green leaves. It had 2 small flipper-like appendages, and ended in a tail. It looked up to Alyss with it’s black eyes, clearly excited. “W...wait… I know you… You’re a Chapmon.”
“As I’d expect of you Alyss,” it spoke softly looking up at her. “W...wait… are you my own partner digimon?” Chapmon smiled up at her, nodding softly. “Yup, you know it!” Chapmon hopped forward, and Alyss knelt down to pick him up. At first Chapmon leaned on her arm, but she soon picked him up, cupping him in her hands. As Alyss turned him around, looking him over, her phone began to vibrate in her pocket. “W...wait… My phone was on silent-” shifting Chapmon to one hand, she pulled her phone out, and saw a small pixelated version of Chapmon. On the top left of the screen there was a box that read “Health” and was a soft Green. Under it, a box that said “Hunger” was a muted yellow. It had Chapmon’s name across the top of the screen, and then “Lv 2” after it. In the bottom right of the screen is a small messenger bag. “Huh… That’s… interesting.”
“What is it Alyss?” Chapmon jumped up Alyss’s arm till he could hang onto her shoulder. “Just… I’m used to seeing digivices in anime and even had a few of the toys-”
“Digivices aren’t toys silly.”
“Well where I’m from-”
“Wait… Did… did you think…” Chapmon started to cry. “Wait… Wait Chapmon… Are you the Betamon I was raising?” Chapmon nodded triumphantly. “The one and only-”
“But… But you were a Koromon then-” Chapmon got silent for a moment, looking away. “I’m not upset about it. Honestly, I think you’re adorable, and I’m glad to know you’re the partner I’ve been alongside for awhile.” Chapmon let out an excited chirp, nuzzling against Alyss. “Huh… Van would love it here.” Chapmon simply nodded. “Well… I’m not sure where to go but… shall we?”
“Lead the way Alyss!”
As Alyss began to walk, she looked idly around her. “So does this forest have a name?” Chapmon looked around, curiously. “Well no… but that’s because all of Arbormon’s area is forest.” Alyss stopped dead in her tracks. “Wait, Arbormon? Like… the holy spirit of wood-”
“The one and the same!” Alyss felt a sense of dread for a moment, then some hope. “Maybe it’ll be a bit different.” Chapmon simply looked a bit confused, as Alyss smiled to him. “Don’t worry about it. Just… some Digimon media from my world that was…” Alyss sighed, unsure how to explain it. Chapmon just shrugged as they began walking. “What about Ranamon? Or Lobomon? Do they have territory?”
“Well… Ranamon owns a nearby territory, Atlantis. Lobomon doesn’t own any territory, seemingly being a traveller with Loweemon to attempt to right any wrongs committed by…” Chapmon clamped his flippers over his mouth. “I… I won’t say… uhm… anyway-” Alyss watched him, before shaking her head softly. “I’m sure I’ll learn in time. What about Agunimon? Kumamon?” Chapmon nodded, finally uncovering his mouth. “They do but-” before Chapmon could continue, a zap of electricity rushed past them, striking the ground. Alyss jumped back, lifting her fists. “Who’s there-” A fairly sized, taser shaped insect stepped out from behind the tree. It had a silverish shell, and electrical currents running between the top. The pincers had electrical currents arcing between them as well. “I’m Kokuwamon-” Chapmon stared confused. “Wait… but Kokuwamon… They’re normally-”
“Docile.” Alyss chimed in. Chapmon turned to look at her. “What? Knowledge about digimon natures and habits is kinda my thing.”
“Human… humans… I’ll… I’ll destroy you-” Kokuwamon let out a burst of electricity. Alyss jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding the arcing current. “Wait, why are-” Another jolt of electricity as Alyss landed. The jolt went just wide, hitting a nearby tree, a sizeable branch breaking off and landing on Alyss. She dropped to a knee, holding her head. “Owwww….”
“Humans… You’ve… You’ve killed… so many of us!” As Kokuwamon held his claws forward, the electricity danced between them. “No-” Alyss’s phone began to glow, Chapmon jumping between Alyss and the Kokuwamon. “Chapmon, digivolve to…” Chapmon began to grow, bathed in soft light. His flippers sprouted sharp nails, similar leg like appendages growing near his tail. The white belly grew towards his beak, which receded into his darkening skin. A large orange mohawk sprouted from his back, blue jagged stripes on each side. “Betamon-” he called out, landing on the tips of his nails, staring down the Kokuwamon. “I can’t let you hurt her… She’s my friend!”
“She’s a human! Don’t you know?” Betamon seemed confused, looking forward. “They don’t care about digimon… They’ll kill us by the hundreds… That’s what the knights are saying… and… humans…” The crackling electricity got more frantic. “They killed my friends!” Another arc fired off, but it just seemed to connect to Betamon, giving him a charge of his own. “Alyss didn’t! She’s not that kind of human!” Alyss looked up between Betamon and Kokuwamon. “Betamon wait-” As Betamon prepared to let loose the charge, Alyss jumped between the 2 of them, facing Betamon. “Hold on Betamon…” Betamon looked up at Alyss determined, before nodding. “Kokuwamon…” Alyss turned to face the large bug. The many scratches and injuries much clearer to Alyss now. “Listen to me… I’m… I’m sorry for what those humans did. If possible I’d like to make it right. Do you know where they went?” Kokuwamon caught off guard, pointed behind him. “They started walking that way. I ran from them because I couldn’t win… Their partners were stronger than me, and they were violent too… Our group didn’t stand a chance.”
“I’d like to go talk to them, and force them to apologize to you. If we catch up to them-” There was rustling in the bush behind Kokuwamon, who jumped to attention. Popping out from the bush, Van stepped out, dusting his orange jacket off. His familiar short blue hair with the occasional yellow highlight stood out. Behind him, a small orange dinosaur, about half his height. “Oh hey Alyss-”
“Wait, Van did you attack a bunch of Kokuwamon?” Alyss said raising her fists. “What? No, when would I have… Wait-” Van said, reminiscing. “I think I know who did. Follow me-”
